Dear UCA Family,
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16
YEARBOOK – PICTURES TO SHARE?
The yearbook is headed to the printer soon. If you have pictures from any UCA event or a sports game that would be fun to include in the yearbook, please send them to yearbook@ucaa.org. By now, all senior items should be there including senior picture and tribute (if you are having one). The senior picture will be used for the composite on the wall as well. If you have any questions, please contact Tamara Terry at tamara.terry@ucaa.org. Thank you!
BEANS AND RICE FOR KENYA FUNDRAISER
In case you have heard that our students are only being fed Beans and Rice in the Cafeteria, you are partially correct! Our students voted almost unanimously to serve Beans and Rice six times during the weeks leading up to Spring Break as a fundraiser for the people of Kenya who are in a severe drought resulting in a famine. Here’s how it works: when the Cafeteria serves only beans and rice, the cost of ingredients is significantly lower than for regular meals, so the cafeteria “refunds” a portion of the meal cost based on the number of students eating at each meal. Our Africa Trip students are hoping to raise $10,000 in order to purchase Rice, Maize, and Beans to distribute to the people of Kenya to whom they will be ministering. And today, after our fifth beans and rice lunch, we are very close to achieving our goal! After all, doing medical and dental ministry for people who are starving and may die of starvation in a matter of weeks is futile. Please pray that as the students participate in this fundraiser, their eyes will be opened to the needs of the people of Kenya and that all of our hearts would be broken for the things that break the heart of God.
DAY STUDENTS – SUNDAY SCHOOL/DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME CHANGE
Remember, there will be school on SUNDAY, March 12, with a regular class schedule. Spring Break starts on Wednesday, the 15th!
Keep in mind that Daylight Savings time begins that Sunday when the time moves FORWARD one hour.
SPRING BREAK/HOME-LEAVE BUS
Home leave begins at 12:12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, and classes resume on Monday, March 27, 2017. Please see the shortened schedule for home leave attached. Students planning to ride on the UCA home-leave buses should respond to the transportation email by Friday, March 10. The home-leave bus schedule is also attached.

WALLA WALLA UNIVERSITY DAYS – ALL SENIORS
Walla Walla University Days will be April 2-4. Our seniors will visit WWU and experience a taste of college life, including attending classes, informational meetings, and staying in the dorms. This will be an amazing opportunity to explore what Walla Walla University has to offer and to spend some fun time together as a class. The information obtained will be beneficial for them, even if they are not planning to attend WWU. Our students will have a great time at this event and are required to go.
ACT DATE CHANGE – JUNIORS AND SENIORS
The ACT exam date has changed to Wednesday, April 19. All juniors and seniors will take the ACT exam on April 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They will keep their regular afternoon appointments.
SENIORS – COLLEGE DAYS
Seniors, if you plan to visit a college in preparation for next year, it is imperative that this happens during the 3rd quarter rather than the 4th quarter, as we want you to succeed and graduate!

WINTER DRIVING/ATTENDANCE POLICY
SAFETY IS OUR FIRST CONCERN!
Day students are encouraged to stay in the dorm when it is unsafe to travel. In this case, the fee for staying overnight in the dorm will be waived. Please make arrangements with the deans. Students driving during poor road conditions should allow extra driving time.
Even if Liberty School District is closed, we will continue to have classes. Parents will need to evaluate the situation. Our top priority is student safety, but we also don’t want them to miss classes unnecessarily. Liberty often closes due to conditions that do not affect travel to UCA. If Liberty is closed, students’ perfect attendance will not be affected and absences will be excused.
If Liberty School District is on a two-hour delay, we will operate as normal. If you have a special circumstance, please advise us.
Tune in to the radio or TV stations in the morning to have a list of school closings. You may also receive the same information on their websites.
If students have travel emergencies or will be staying home due to road conditions, parents need to call Flor Smith at 245-3614.
Again, you are encouraged to help your student allow extra travel time or have them stay in the dorm when necessary.
We are all praying for a safe winter.
