Dear UCA Family,
“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endures forever. O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endures forever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endures forever. To him who alone does great wonders: for his mercy endures forever.” Psalm 136:1-4
THIS WEEK:
DAY STUDENTS – HOPE TASKFORCE
Hope Taskforce Day is this Thursday, November 17. Please remember to check the Ad Building bulletin boards to see what project and what time you are signed up for. Parents of day students, if you would like your student to be picked up at Yoke’s, (former Trading Company Store) 4235 Cheney Spokane Rd. on Hwy 195, instead of having to drop them off and pick them up at UCA, we need to hear from you by Wednesday. There is a sign-up sheet in the Front Office for those who need transportation. If you have any questions, please contact Misa Barba at (509) 245-3628 or misa.barba@ucaa.org. The pick-up/drop-off times are below:
At Yoke’s Store | Morning Projects | Afternoon Projects |
Pick-up | 8:40 a.m. | 12:00 p.m. |
Drop-off | 12:37 p.m. | 4:18 p.m. |
Village students on the meal plan who need a lunch, please sign up in the front office by Wednesday morning, November 16. Lunches will not be made for students whose names are not on the list. You may pick up your sack lunch at the café on Thursday morning before you leave to go to your project, or ask a friend to pick it up for you. Thanks for your help!

CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK SETTINGS
Previously, there have been several versions of Upper Columbia Academy on Facebook and people have been checking in and liking a different one than our official Upper Columbia Academy Facebook page. We think we have fixed that now, and you may want to check your Facebook settings to see if you are following UCA. If you liked it previously but your settings don’t show that, it means you selected another Upper Columbia Academy page. Thank you for liking and following the verified Upper Columbia Academy Facebook page. If you have questions, please email tamara.terry@ucaa.org.
SENIORS:
PICTURES
Thank you to those who have already sent in your senior picture. For those who haven’t, please let us know if you would like us to use the “Like It Looks” picture. All hi-res senior pictures (in dress code) should be sent (if you haven’t already done so) to yearbook@ucaa.org. Besides the yearbook, this picture will go in the senior composite to hang on the wall of the Campbell Administration Building.
TRIBUTES
Thank you to those who have already sent in your senior tributes for the yearbook. Space is limited, so if you have not reserved your space, please do so immediately by emailing yearbook@ucaa.org. Dress code applies for senior tributes as well. Thank you!
PICTURES FOR GRADUATION
While you have your pictures out for the yearbook senior tributes (if you are having one), please send four pictures to seniors@ucaa.org for the graduation weekend slide show. That includes a baby one, a current one, and two in between. Please be considerate of dress code. Thank you!
PRAYING FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF
If you would like to pray for a specific Upper Columbia Academy student or staff member, please email prayer.patch@ucaa.org. Prayer PATCH is a prayer ministry that has been a part of this campus for more than 20 years. Each year, students are matched with a prayer warrior who prays specifically for that student. In recent years, we added the staff to the prayer connections. Sometimes students hear from the person praying for them, sometimes they don’t. Periodically, we offer the students a treat such as “Mints for Mid-Terms” and “TestaMints” with scriptures on the mints to remind them there are people praying for them.
In previous years, we’ve had Pathfinder clubs make brownies for students and include a scripture and note reminding them that people care and pray for them. One year an individual made 300 cookies which we individually wrapped and included a “Praying for You” note for the students and staff. If you or your club would like to help with this ministry, please email tamara.terry@ucaa.org or call (509) 245-3600.
ECHOES
The new edition of the “Echoes” has been published and is on our website! Please check it out at www.ucaa.org. Enjoy!
NEXT WEEK:
DAY STUDENTS – SUNDAY SCHOOL
There will be school on SUNDAY, November 20, with a regular class schedule. Thanksgiving break is coming on Tuesday, the 22nd!
HOME-LEAVE BUS
Students planning to ride the UCA home-leave buses should reply to the transportation email by Friday, November 18. The schedule is attached. It is very important for parents to be early at the drop-off/pick-up points. The bus driver is on a very tight schedule, and it affects everyone if they wait for late arrivals. Thank you for helping us be on time by ensuring your student is on time.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY – ADMINISTRATOR ON DUTY DURING HOME LEAVE
If there is an emergency during home leave regarding transportation or the home-leave bus, please call (509) 245-3601. If an administrator is not able to answer, please leave a message. They will be checking the messages frequently.
DAY STUDENT NOTICE!!
Please see the WINTER DRIVING/ATTENDANCE POLICY below.

WINTER DRIVING/ATTENDANCE POLICY
SAFETY IS OUR FIRST CONCERN!
Day students are encouraged to stay in the dorm when it is unsafe to travel. In this case, the fee for staying overnight in the dorm will be waived. Please make arrangements with the deans. Students driving during poor road conditions should allow extra driving time.
Even if Liberty School District is closed, we will continue to have classes. Parents will need to evaluate the situation. Our top priority is student safety, but we also don’t want them to miss classes unnecessarily. Liberty often closes due to conditions that do not affect travel to UCA. If Liberty is closed, students’ perfect attendance will not be affected and absences will be excused.
If Liberty School District is on a two-hour delay, we will operate as normal. If you have a special circumstance, please advise us.
Tune in to the radio or TV stations in the morning to have a list of school closings. You may also receive the same information on their websites.
If students have travel emergencies or will be staying home due to road conditions, parents need to call Flor Smith at 245-3614.
Again, you are encouraged to help your student allow extra travel time or have them stay in the dorm when necessary.
