History and Political Science
- Class Maximum: 20 students
- History of the United States (Two Semesters)
- Course Description: American history from the pre-Columbian period to the present. The first semester covers through Reconstruction; the second semester covers Reconstruction to the present. This course emphasizes primary sources and critical thinking skills. Students who complete the course will receive 8 college quarter credits through Walla Walla University, transferable to any institution. An additional fee will be charged on behalf of the university issuing the credit.
Prerequisites and Requirements:
- Junior class standing
- Completed application
- 3.5 cumulative GPA or above
- Two formal writing samples, i.e. an essay, report, or analysis
- One 200-word essay concerning why the student feels they should qualify for the class
- Personal interview with instructor (in-person or online)
- For students new to UCA only: A letter of recommendation from a teacher describing the student’s work ethic
American Government (First semester)
- Course Description: The principles, organization, and development of American national, state, and local government. This course emphasizes primary sources and the investigation of competing perspectives. Students who complete the course will receive 4 college quarter credits through Walla Walla University, transferable to any institution. An additional fee will be charged on behalf of the university issuing the credit.
The West and the World (Second Semester)
- Class Maximum: 18 students
- Course Description: The history of Europe and its interaction with the world from the 19th century to the present. This course emphasizes primary sources and the development of critical thinking skills. Students who complete the course will receive 4 college quarter credits through Walla Walla University, transferable to any institution. An additional fee will be charged on behalf of the university issuing the credit.
